Midnight chat
A few years back our "family" decided to converge on the Outer Banks and rent a cottage. Frank, Gabe, Leah and Jim drove from Pittsburgh, Uncle Russ, Aunt Gail & cuzs Nick and Russ came from Cambridge, Barb came from Meadville and Leah Catherine's mom and brother Marc and I drove down together. We decided to drive straight through the night anxious to get together, fish, feast and make some memories. By the time we all arrived very early in the morning we were exhausted but managed to spend the day settling in, investigating and planning the deep sea fishing excursion (the one where Jim played "the invisible man " and scared about 5 years off each of our lives!) . When the day wound down we were all just about out of gas so I crawled into bed ready to catch up on all the sleep I'd lost. After about five minutes Jim came in and crawled onto of the covers anxious to talk about that special girl he was seeing. Even though I could hardly keep my eyes open he was so passionate about the subject that I couldn't help but stay awake just to listen to him talk about her! Now when Jim had something that he loved he was absolutely passionate whether it be cooking, a friend, his mom, brothers or family or his girlfriend and this night he was on a roll! He told me all about Keri and how he already had plans to surprise her with one of his many endearing little gestures. He told me how he worried about her and cared about her. He told me how he met her and what she did that annoyed him and made him love her even more, what she looked like, who her friends were and how much he missed her. She called him in the middle of our conversation and he stayed right there with the phone tipped sideways so I could hear what her voice sounded like. I'm so glad I stayed awake!!! In our lives we share so many special moments and I bank all of mine so I can make a withdrawal when I need to. This is just one of them.

I didn't get to go on this trip because I had a stupid test! I should have just skipped it!... But you are right about Jim, he was always super passionate about things... just to watch his face tell a story would captivate you. He was like that ever since he was tiny. Always over the top! And he used to tell me his crazy ideas about his "endearing little gestures"... he would bounce the idea off me and if it made me want to gag, it was perfect and he wanted to do it even more...
